Creation of the Prize | On the 4th of April of 2011, the City Council of Coimbra decided to create the Adriano Lucas Journalism Award, with the aim of encouraging and promoting works in the area of journalism, favoring the genre reporting with the purpose, preferably, of dissemination of themes related to Coimbra and the region of Beiras. The Award results from the partnership between the City Council of Coimbra, the University of Coimbra and “Diário de Coimbra”.

2. JOÃO JOSÉ COCHOFEL / CASA DA ESCRITA LITERARY AWARD

Creation of the Award | On the 8th of November of 2011 the City Council of Coimbra decided to create the João José Cochofel / Casa da Escrita Literary prize to award the best work in Portuguese language (poetry, fiction or essay), preferably related to Coimbra. The prize is awarded biennially in the year when the festivities of the City of Coimbra and Rainha Santa are not hold.

Creation of the Award | The Diogo de Castilho Municipal Architecture Award was proposed by a resolution of the City Council, in the meeting on the 4th of May of 1995 and its creation was approved by the Municipal Assembly, in the session on the 5th of May of the same year, with the goal of promoting and encouraging the architectural quality of new buildings, as well as the recovery and rehabilitation of properties that significantly contributed to the appreciation and safeguarding of the architectural heritage of Coimbra.

 

 

4. EDMUNDO DE BETTENCOURT AWARD

Opening of the Edmundo Bettencourt Award/Song of Coimbra – 2017 Edition

 

Creation of the Award | By determination of the Municipal Executive at the meeting on the 25th of November of 2002 the Edmundo de Bettencourt Award was established in honor of the presencista2 poet-singer, to be held biennially during the Festivities of the City of Coimbra and Rainha Santa Isabel.

 

The award aims to grant, by the City Council of Coimbra the financial support for the edition of the best discographic work of originals presented in the CD format in the genre “Canção de Coimbra” that is a candidate for this purpose thus promoting the creation of new themes and the appearance of new values in this musical genre.

 

 

5. MIGUEL TORGA/CITY OF COIMBRA LITERARY AWARD

Opening of the Miguel Torga/Cidade de Coimbra Literary Award – 2017 Edition

Creation of the Award | The Municipality of Coimbra instituted the Miguel Torga/City of Coimbra Literary Award to be granted biennially during the celebration of the Town Feasts and Rainha Santa Isabel on the 4th of July, and it was awarded for the first time in 1984 with the aim to award an unpublished work in Portuguese Language in the category of narrative aiming to stimulate literary creation and the appearance of new authors.
