Presentation:

Games of Coimbra, a return that is welcomed.

Recovering a success that marked many generations of young people in the city and after an interregnum of more than a decade, the Games of Coimbra in its 14th edition is the first sporting event organized by the City Council of Coimbra in partnership with the parishes of the municipality of Coimbra.

The main goal of this initiative is to provide the practice of sports to an increasing number of children, young people and adults.

This sporting event, in collaboration with Parishes, Sports Associations and Sports Federations, aims to be a factor of union and integration. It aims to promote sports for all, to affirm the principle of equality in its various forms and to allow the inclusion of all in the practice of physical activity and sports.

It also seeks to stimulate the identity and the spirit of belonging of the populations to their parishes. In this new edition and after a meeting already held with the Parish Councils, we chose the following modalities: Handball (all levels); Athletics (lane and bush in all echelons); Basketball (Mini-basketball and 3X3 Veterans + 40); Football (little ones and naughty ones); Futsal (Little ones, naughty one and veterans + 40); Traditional Games (All levels); Mini Triathlon (All levels); Swimming (All levels) and Volleyball (All ages).

Featured in this edition, Sports Adapted at all levels in the modalities of Athletics, Basketball, Boccia, and Swimming.

Also, the associative movement has a challenge to “win new audiences”, taking advantage of this “window of opportunity”, provided by an event “for those who are starting or who still have to try.”

In the first phase, between February and April of 2017, these modalities will be disputed at the level of all the parishes. In the second phase, the best of each parish will contest the municipal finals between May and July of the next year. But even before all of this, until January 2017, the promotion phase takes place – in order to guarantee the participation of the greatest possible number of athletes and teams – and the registrations for the Local Phase of the games.
