Christmas and New Year’s Eve:

Christmas and New Year’s Eve:

To celebrate the holiday season and the end of the year, the City Council of Coimbra promotes the Christmas and New Year’s animation program. A program with many proposals for all audiences, which is not only intended to make known the cultural diversity and sports of the city, but also to enhance their attractiveness in the holiday season without prejudice to the valorization and promotion of the commerce of the Downtown part of Coimbra.

The city “wears” the colors of Christmas and is filled with magic, with the realization of several concerts, musical “arruadas”, activities for children, guided tours, exhibitions, short stories and Christmas songs, plays, sports events of various modalities, among many other activities that fill the calendar of each edition. It is a program that results from the joint mission of mirroring the cultural, tourist and sporting events that take place in Coimbra in this period, thus forming a project of cooperation between several entities of the city.

The high point of the program is the celebration of the new year. The New Year’s eve party always brings to Coimbra the great names and reference groups in the national musical genre, in a memorable evening, with the streets of the Downtown part of the city filled with people and a spectacular firework shows over the Mondego river marking the entrance in the new year. In addition to the main attractions, the night offers many more music proposals ensuring the animation in the center of the city until dawn with DJ’s, Revival Music and other groups distributed by the various stages that make up the event: Largo da Portagem, Terreiro da Erva, Praça do Comércio and Praça 8 de Maio.

“Christmas and New Year’s” is an event designed thinking in everyone, which brings a lot of excitement to the Downtown part of the city and that makes this one of the best and liveliest New Year’s Eve parties of the country!
