For about ten days, the entire area of Parque Dr. Manuel Braga is divided by thematic areas seeking to make known to the public the entirety of the venue and encouraging the visitors to circulate throughout the Fair. The area of the Book mirrors the reality of the Portuguese publishing world, from the technical book to poetry, from the big bookstores to the small publishers. Craftsmanship stands out in the areas of pottery, weaving, tin work, glass, woods, traditional and contemporary games, basketry, would steer, tropology and patchwork, shoes, clothing with wool and made of wool, embroidery, jewelry and filigree, musical instruments, string instruments, fashion accessories, among others showing visitors the most interesting that is produced in the scope of Portuguese craftsmanship. The investment in the areas of Culture and Creativity, Musical Editions and Plastic Arts opens the Fair to the participation of companies and associations linked to the cultural creation and content offering. The Gastronomy area, which is distributed throughout the Fair counts on the presence of the products and flavors of Beiras, of the regional confectionery and of the folkloric groups that are constantly contributing with the specialties of the Parishes of Coimbra, to which is added the presence of restaurants, street food and privileged lounge areas. The Institutional area counts with the participation of some of the main institutions which are the protagonists of the life of Coimbra that are associated with this initiative.
The vitality of Coimbra’s Cultural Fair is also due to the complementarity of an attractive and luring cultural animation program. In this record apply the various shows that go up to the stages installed in the space providing a number of discoveries to the public of the fair. Among the many performances, many are carried out by agents of the vast associative movement of the municipality, such as the “tunas”, choirs, folkloric and ethnographic groups and structures of an instrumental and theatrical nature.
But that is not all. Conferences, creative writing, illustration, painting and other workshops, poetry, street theatre and other activities of a ludic character are part of the usual programming of the event which offers a series of varied activities directed to the young public. The 24 Cultural Hours event brings about, still, for a day, to the park spaces, events as well as cultural and creative non-stop activities.
