“Encontros Mágicos” – the International Festival of Magic of Coimbra – organized by the City Council of Coimbra and produced by Produções Luís de Matos bring to Coimbra, for a week, more than a hundred street performances, performed, essentially, in the Downtown part of the city, but also in the parishes of the municipality.
The program includes the realization of two International Magic Galas that bring spectacle, illusion, and the ability to dream continuing to amaze, year after year, the public that sells out the Grande Auditório do Convento São Francisco. The solidarity component is also one of the most indelible marks of “Encontros Mágicos”. The “Magia Solidária” (=solidary magic) usually has shows taking place at the Hospitals of the Coimbra University, at the Pediatric Hospital, at the Portuguese Oncology Institute and the Prison Establishment of Coimbra. Complementing the program are the magic classes, which enable dozens of young people to take a beginner’s course on magic art.
A magical event that has been contributing to give the city of Coimbra more visibility and that increases, at each year, its number of admirers.
