Project “Documenta”:

The project Documenta, a Latin word meaning “documents” aims to overcome the physical barriers of the Archive, disseminating its copies to a wider audience.

The project Documenta, a Latin word meaning “documents” aims to overcome the physical barriers of the Archive, disseminating its copies to a wider audience which is unable to go and see the originals in person, nor can they “meet them” through temporary exhibitions, always short-lived and demanding adequate conditions of security and preservation for the presentation of the documents, which the AHMC does not have in the temporary premises it occupies. Thus, people are left with the chance to take advantage of the possibilities that the ICTs, the new Information and Communications Technologies offer to virtually disseminate the Archive.

However, as it does not yet have sufficient equipment and personnel to develop a policy of concerted and systematic digitization of its originals, this project was carried out with the selection of some documents that the AHMC will gradually make available.

In this section, in constant updating, you will always find:

a) the digital image of the document,

b) the summary of its content,

c) the historical context of its production,

d) the paleographic transcription (if appropriate)

e) the version in current Portuguese (if appropriate).

For older texts there will be a Braille version that can be requested.
