The fourth century was marked by the entrance of Christianity in the region of Poitou, being the most remarkable landmark of this time the Baptistery of Saint-Jean in Poitiers, considered the oldest Christian monument in Europe.
In 1432, Charles VII of France founded the University of Poitiers. The activities linked to higher education and research are distributed between three locations: the university campus (to East), the Futuroscope (north) and the city center.
The vitality of the industrial fabric and of the tertiary sector, the possibilities for travel afforded by the motorway and the TGV make of Poitiers an economically attractive city.
Poitiers is also a culturally dynamic and eclectic city. It offers varied and important infrastructures that serve as spaces for creation, production and dissemination of cultural actions. In this city, all locations can be the scene of the most various shows, whether in their gardens, on the terraces next to the monuments, or on the terraces of the cafes. It is a city with very strong touristic spots.
